Immunizations are for people of all ages. From newborns to senior citizens, timely immunizations are one of the most important ways for people to protect themselves and others from serious diseases. Adults need to make certain they have received all of their childhood vaccinations and stay up-to-date with the vaccinations that are recommended for adults. All college students attending school in New York State are required to be immunized against measles, mumps and rubella.
Hamilton County Public Health Nursing Service performs community outreach covering several areas of key public health services. This outreach is done in community locations and targets individuals of all ages. Below are some of the key areas that we work to provide education in to ensure all individuals have the knowledge necessary to protect and promote their health.
The Hamilton County Public Health Nursing Service Emergency Preparedness Program (EPP) works with other public health programs to develop strategies to anticipate, detect, assess and understand the health risks and impacts of an emergency.
The EPP develops plans to prepare Hamilton County to respond to, mitigate and recover from all public health threats and emergencies.

A communicable disease is an illness or infection that can be spread from person to person, animal to person, animal to animal or person to animal. Communicable disease is the leading cause of sickness and death worldwide and is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Many communicable diseases can be prevented with immunizations. HCPHNS is governed and financially supported by the Hamilton County Board of Supervisors, in cooperation with and under the regulation of, the New York State Department of Health.
